A broad coalition of California renters, housing advocates, elected officials, and social justice organizations will host a press conference on the West Steps of the Capitol Building in Sacramento, CA on Wednesday, October 25th in support of the ‘Justice for Renters Act,’ a statewide ballot initiative that would remove California’s rent control ban and give local communities the right to stabilize rents and make apartments more affordable for low-income and middle-income renters. The coalition will be delivering more than 732,000 letters – filling 250 boxes – to Governor Gavin Newsom asking that he support, or at least not oppose, the 2024 California rent control ballot initiative.

The Justice for Renters ballot campaign kicked off May 25th with a press conference on the steps of Los Angeles City Hall announcing rent control advocates had collected more than 810,000 signatures in support of the proposed 2024 ballot measure, far more than the 546,651 valid California voter signatures needed to qualify the measure. The Secretary of State’s office certified the measure to be placed on the November 2024 ballot on July 26, 2023.

The Justice for Renters coalition will be delivering more than 732,000 letters – filling 250 boxes – to Governor Gavin Newsom on Wednesday asking that he support, or at least not oppose, the November 2024 California rent control ballot initiative.
