Wellpoint DC Achieves First Full NCQA Health Plan Accreditation with Perfect Compliance Score

Wellpoint DC (formerly Amerigroup District of Columbia) today announced that it has been awarded Full Health Plan Accreditation by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) for its Medicaid HMO, effective June 16, 2025, through June 16, 2028.

This achievement marks Wellpoint DC’s first Full NCQA Health Plan Accreditation since the award of its current Medicaid contract. The plan previously earned NCQA Interim Health Plan Accreditation six months after going live, demonstrating that it had key quality structures in place to meet NCQA’s standards for consumer protection and quality improvement.

The new Full Accreditation recognizes that Wellpoint DC meets NCQA’s comprehensive national standards for quality improvement and consumer protection. In earning this distinction, the plan achieved a perfect score of 141 out of 141, with no elements scored “Not Met.”

“Earning Full Accreditation from NCQA is both an honor and a testament to our team’s dedication to quality,” said Adrian Jordan, President of Wellpoint DC. “It reflects our unwavering focus on care coordination, access to quality care, and accountability, and it reinforces confidence among our regulators, provider partners, and members that Wellpoint DC delivers care aligned with the highest national standards.”

NCQA Health Plan Accreditation is a voluntary evaluation that purchasers, regulators, and consumers can use to assess health plans. The program evaluates how well a health plan manages all parts of its delivery system, including physicians, hospitals, and administrative services, to continuously improve the quality of care and service provided to members. Surveys include rigorous on-site and off-site assessments of more than 60 standards and selected HEDIS® measures, conducted by expert reviewers and a national oversight committee.

“NCQA Health Plan Accreditation is a nationally recognized evaluation that purchasers, regulators, and consumers can use to assess health plans,” said Margaret E. O’Kane, NCQA President. “It shows that a health plan is serious about quality and is working hard to deliver better care.”
