About Angela L. Boozer

Mrs. Boozer began her career as a registered nurse in the neonatal intensive care unit at Oklahoma Children's - OU Health. During this time, she served as a bedside nurse and child passenger safety technician. There, she initiated a NICU class for parents focused on car seat education and safety. Still running today, the program shows Mrs. Boozer's lasting impact on family support and patient safety.

Mrs. Boozer's work expanded as she transitioned to a neonatal nurse clinician at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 2016 while completing her graduate degree. In 2017, she became a neonatal nurse practitioner at Oklahoma Children's - OU Health, where she now works alongside neonatologists to manage the care of 15 or more patients daily in a 107-bed level IV neonatal ICU. Her responsibilities include team rounding, total parenteral nutrition management, daily medical management and performing bedside procedures. She also serves on several committees, including the NNP Orientation Committee, NICU EPIC Committee and NNP Scheduling Committee.

In 2024, Mrs. Boozer became an EPIC physician builder. In this role, she helps improve charting accuracy and documentation efficiency within the hospital's EPIC system. She aims to join the EPIC neonatology steering board to help guide hospitals using the system and improve neonatal care nationwide. She values staying current in medicine, so she consistently participates in research and attends neonatology conferences to provide the best possible care.

Success Through Hands-On Learning and Mentorship

Throughout her career, Mrs. Boozer has built her expertise through years of hands-on learning and mentorship. She completed all of her clinical rotations in the NICU at OU Health during practitioner school. There, she gained experience with extremely premature babies and advanced treatments such as surfactant therapy, ventilation support and early gestational resuscitation. She also witnessed significant advances in nutrition and antibiotic stewardship.

Mrs. Boozer holds a master's degree in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington and a bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She maintains certifications as an advanced practice registered nurse, a board-certified neonatal nurse practitioner and a registered nurse. Furthering her expertise, she is a member of the Academy of Neonatal Nursing, the American Nurses Association, the National Association of Neonatal Nurses and Sigma Theta Tau.

Making an Impact

Reflecting on her career, Mrs. Boozer credits her success to God, her husband, family support and strong mentors in the NICU who shaped her clinical foundation. She was raised to value effort and integrity and her parents taught her that success comes from applying one's God-given abilities with dedication, even when outcomes fall short of perfection. She believes in resilience and teamwork and hopes to develop a neonatal fellowship program in Oklahoma to support future practitioners.

In her personal life, Mrs. Boozer values time with her husband and enjoys caring for her puppies, scuba diving, gardening and crafting. She believes in maintaining a healthy work-life balance and creating meaningful memories with loved ones.

Her dedication to neonatal care earned Mrs. Boozer a nomination for the 2025 Nurse of the Year award in Oklahoma. She continues to advocate for safe staffing, strong leadership and advancing neonatal medicine through education and innovation.
