Immunization Advocacy Podcast For Global Vaccine Policy Leaders Launched

The Global Health Advocacy Incubator has launched a bilingual podcast aimed at strengthening vaccine policy strategies as countries shift from donor-backed to domestically funded immunization programs.

-- Low- and middle-income countries are under increasing pressure to secure sustainable domestic financing as donor support for immunization programs declines. In response, the Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) has introduced "One Shot, Long Life!"—a podcast series designed to spotlight policy solutions and frontline advocacy during this pivotal transition.

The podcast's launch comes amid a significant shift in global immunization financing. In 2024, countries supported by Gavi contributed a record $255 million toward their own vaccination programs—an increase of 19% from the previous year. Between 2026 and 2030, these nations are projected to fund nearly $4 billion of program costs, accounting for almost half of total expenditures.

Despite progress, challenges persist. An estimated 14.5 million children remain unvaccinated globally, with nearly 60% residing in 10 countries, including Afghanistan, Nigeria, and India. Outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases have surged by 43% since 2021, highlighting the urgent need for stronger policy advocacy and financial commitment.

"Countries are taking greater ownership of their immunization programs at a time when global vaccine coverage has not fully recovered from the pandemic," a GHAI representative stated. "This podcast brings forward the voices of advocates working to ensure sustainable financing reaches every child who needs protection."

The podcast series targets vaccine policy stakeholders across Africa and Asia, offering insights through interviews with advocates, policymakers, and public health experts. Featured episodes look at strategies to close Nigeria's $200 million annual immunization funding gap and examine the role of legislators in mobilizing domestic resources. Each installment shares real-world tactics to address policy bottlenecks and improve equitable vaccine access.

Episodes are released in both English and French and are available on major platforms.
