Xsight Labs Delivers Universal Top-of-Rack (TOR) Switch Platform

Xsight Labs, a leading fabless semiconductor company providing intelligent connectivity solutions for next-generation hyperscale, edge and AI data center networks, today announced the availability of the industry’s first Universal top-of-rack (TOR) switch platform. The platform, co-developed with Edgecore Networks, utilizes the X2’s unmatched 100G, 200G and 400G edge connectivity to help cloud service providers (CSPs) maximize the performance, power and, ultimately, elasticity of network configurations.

The Universal TOR switch platform’s unparalleled port flexibility means that any combination of up to 32 ports can be activated at any speed: 100G (QSFP28), 200G (QSFP56) or 400G (QSFP112). Each dual-QSFP port can be configured independently, allowing full customization to match evolving bandwidth requirements. QSFP112 connectivity stands out as the most efficient solution for 400G networking, delivering lower power consumption and reduced thermal load.

The Universal TOR switch platform is designed for the needs of CSPs and supports enterprise applications including next-gen top-of-rack systems and advanced AI. The platform provides all the benefits of the X2 Programmable Ethernet Switch, including TSMC 5nm (N5) technology.

  • 128 fully configurable network ports ranging from 25G to 400G
  • 128 x 112G XLR (Extra Long Reach) SerDes
  • Supports connectivity to legacy NICs or leading edge 112G SerDes on DPUs
  • As low as 550ns latency with 25G SerDes
  • 180W system power at 12.8T (<80W at 3.2T)
  • Fully SONiC enabled
  • Programmable application-optimized switching architecture
  • AI-related features like advanced congestion handling and link failure recovery
  • Software SDK available for the platform

“For the first time in history, Xsight Labs’ X2 switch ASIC enables any of the 32 ports on the switch system to operate at any speed and in any port speed combination,” said Xsight Labs VP Business Development Ted Weatherford. “The 32 QSFP cages support all connectivity options – including DAC, AEC, AOC, and QSFP TXRX optical modules. The Universal switch enables all legacy and modern SerDes speeds to be provisioned in any combination (28G, 56G and 112G SerDes). This facilitates high-performance connectivity, including cutting-edge UltraEthernet Consortium (UEC) fabric applications, while also ensuring interoperability with legacy switch port speeds used by older NICs, DPUs, and system appliances.”
