Shawn Windle shared the basics of ERP systems to educate even the newest members of the ERP community. "Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is defined as connected business applications used to automate business processes and manage resource data across the entire enterprise," shared Mr. Windle. Companies can implement ERP systems for a number of reasons to match the growing demands of their consumers, the market, and more. Mr. Windle clarified that, "Organizations can choose to implement an ERP or upgrade their existing ERP due to growth, outdated legacy software, regulations, or new leadership; however, one should never upgrade or implement an ERP unless it is absolutely necessary." Once a base knowledge is established, the selection and negotiation process can burden leadership to find the best deal. In addition to an ERP introduction, Mr. Windle offered buying tips, "We always encourage clients to be clear regarding their needs and that they should not be afraid to ask for discounts or renewal caps. When a deal is reached, all involved parties should walk away feeling satisfied."
