GetWellNetwork Releases Digital Care Plans to Support National COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution

Bethesda, MD (December 10, 2020) — GetWellNetwork, a global leader in patient engagement, announced today the availability of additional GetWell Loop digital care plans in direct support of the upcoming COVID-19 vaccine distribution across the country. This digital patient engagement technology is specifically designed to support distribution, education, and guidance for COVID-19 vaccines produced by the partnership between Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE as well as the vaccine produced by Moderna, Inc.

The digital care plans leverage GetWellNetwork’s proven approach to scalable digital engagement and remote monitoring, with an increased concentration on meeting the needs of vulnerable populations through actionable content from trusted resources. The care plans are designed to educate patients about anticipated side effects, remind patients about a required second dose, and help mitigate health system overload by providing automated digital support. They address whole-person health and overall well-being with increased attention on mental health, including managing stress, anxiety, and isolation. The care plans can be used for both employees and patients and are designed for quick and easy implementation.

"At GetWellNetwork, we remain focused on creating technology that will pull us through this pandemic. We have taken key learnings from the last nine months and created digital care plans for vaccine distribution that will provide resources to healthcare workers and the population at large, with an emphasis on those underserved groups who need it most,” said Michael O'Neil, GetWellNetwork Founder + CEO. “These latest GetWell Vaccine Loops will provide trusted information, symptom trackers and instructions to increase consumer confidence and adherence throughout this critical phase of the pandemic. In addition, we will be able to monitor in real-time how people are responding to the vaccines."

GetWellNetwork deployed a bundle of digital care plans in March, as part of its initial COVID-19 response, which have been used by more than 275,000 individuals at healthcare organizations across the country, including Bon Secours Mercy Health, Atrium Health, LifeBridge Health, St. Lawrence Health System, and Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin. Of those using the care plans, 89% report satisfaction with the tools and 77% said that GetWellNetwork helped them avoid an unnecessary phone call or hospital visit. These care plans, which were implemented within a matter of days, focused on enabling lower-risk patients to manage their condition at home, alerting clinicians when patients needed to be seen in-person or virtually, and protecting surgical volumes wherever possible by keeping patients on track with their care plan.

The new COVID-19 vaccine “Loops” can be used alongside any of the available 230+ digital care plans in the GetWellNetwork library, including the COVID-19 Active Symptom Monitoring/Exposure Loop, General Hospital Discharge Loop, and other procedural and chronic condition Loops to optimize efforts in reducing health system overload.

“We will continue harnessing the power of our digital technology and provider partners to reach patients at this critical time, in order to help move our nation through this pandemic. The need for scalable, automated healthcare technology has never been greater,” added O’Neil.

The COVID-19 vaccine care plans will be updated regularly to reflect new clinical information and guidance from the respective vaccine manufacturers. As additional vaccines receive emergency usage designation, additional Loops will become available.
