TransformativeMed, the EHR innovator using embedded workflows to empower clinical care and collaboration, announced today that MedStar Health has renewed its long-term Core Workflow Suite contract and signed on as an innovation partner to usher in the next wave of mobile EHR workflow innovations.
Since 2013, MedStar Health, the largest healthcare provider in the Maryland and Washington D.C. region, has used Core Clinical Workflows to create a more structured handoff process. Spreading by physician word-of-mouth, today more than 1500 physicians representing 40 unique clinical services across 10 MedStar hospitals use the Core Work Manager App to integrate the specialty and patient-specific content needed for their service-specific workflows. As an innovation partner MedStar is working with TransformativeMed to remove clinical EHR friction by testing and refining the Core Notify and Core Messaging Apps which integrate workflows with smartphones so clinicians can enter and receive critical alerts, notifications, and messages that are vetted with machine learning, while they work.
Because commercial EHRs were adopted before known usability and workflow integration problems were fixed, there is an EHR innovation gap burdening clinicians with data obfuscation, egregious alerting and notifications, and excessive clinical documentation for non-clinical purposes. Countless studies have demonstrated how EHR usability impacts clinical frustration, burnout, and patient care, efficiency, and quality.
