Incumbent Charlotte mayor stunned in primary upset

Jennifer Roberts, a Democrat, will serve just one term after Vi Lyles defeated her on Tuesday. Lyles and council colleague Kenny Smith, a Republican who won easily in his primary, will face off in the general election on Nov. 7.
