Securian’s Pinkett Named Top Woman in Finance

Kathleen L. Pinkett, senior vice president, Securian Financial Group, was selected as a 2014 Top Woman in Finance.

The Twin Cities newspaper Finance & Commerce established the honor in 2001. Pinkett is the seventh executive from Securian to be named to the list.

Pinkett started her career as a social worker after completing her degree at Macalester College in St. Paul. She moved to Securian in 1981 and moved to positions of greater responsibility throughout the company. She now oversees Human Resources and Corporate Services.

“Kathy is one of the first people I go to when I need to make an important decision,” said Chris Hilger, president, Securian Financial Group. “She has been a sounding board for me in making many decisions that play a role in the company’s success, financially and culturally.”

Interactions with employees often determine whether customers conduct business with a financial services company. Pinkett’s ability to identify the best candidates for specific positions contributes to Securian’s overall financial success.

“Our retention is high because Kathy’s expertise extends beyond human resources,” said Bob Senkler, chairman and CEO, Securian Financial Group. “She understands all aspects of our business operations – financial, administration and distribution. She is an integral part of business planning and strategic development, and she is key to the execution of our strategies.”

Pinkett recently helped complete a leadership transition at Securian, a pivotal event for any company. Senkler announced in June that he will retire at the end of 2014 and Hilger will become CEO on January 1, 2015. This change was many years in the planning and the announcement was expected and celebrated.

Securian is an employer of choice in the Twin Cities and the financial services industry. It appears on many lists of top employers, including Computerworld’s 100 Best Places to Work in IT, the Minneapolis Star Tribune list of Top Workplaces and the AARP list of Best Employers for Workers over 50.

Since 1880, Securian Financial Group and its affiliates have provided financial security for individuals and businesses in the form of insurance, investments and retirement plans. Now one of the nation’s largest financial services providers, it is the holding company parent of a group of companies that offer a broad range of financial services.
