North Carolina Among Top 10 U.S. States Observing a Sharp Drop in Distracted Driving Deaths.

A new study reveals that North Carolina experienced the second-most-significant decrease in distracted driving deaths across the United States.

The research conducted by the Missouri-based personal injury law firm Beck & Beck Missouri Car Accident Lawyers, analyzed NHTSA data for distracted driving crashes across all U.S. states between 2022 and 2023. The percentage change in reported distracted driving crashes was calculated to uncover where these preventable incidents are declining, thanks to enhanced safety measures and awareness efforts.

North Carolina takes the second spot, with a 64.00% decrease in distracted driving crashes. Crashes decreased from 50 in 2022 to 18 in 2023, reducing the number of reported crashes by 32 in a year.

Looking at the study, a spokesperson at Beck & Beck Missouri Car Accident Lawyers commented:

“While this study highlights encouraging decreases in distracted driving deaths across states like North Carolina, it’s important to note that these decreases underscore the effectiveness of enhanced road safety programs and distracted driving prevention campaigns.

“These year-over-year decreases may reflect various local factors, including stricter enforcement, public awareness initiatives, and improved driver education programs. As distracted driving represents a preventable tragedy, these decreases suggest that targeted safety programs, enhanced law enforcement, and community-based prevention efforts are working to reverse dangerous trends and protect residents on the road.”
