It is a fact of human society that there will be a small percentage of the population that will be labeled as dangerous and therefore must be segregated from the rest of the population. For as long as there has been humanity, there have always been prisons where convicts and criminals are sent to pay their debt to society. A good portion of those in jail will spend the rest of their time on this earth inside, never given the chance to re-enter the general population. But for the most part, time spent in jail is only transient, ranging from a couple of months to a few years. Eventually, once they’ve rendered their sentence, they will be allowed to return to their lives outside of prison. But this doesn’t mean their crimes are forgiven or forgotten. Despite having served their sentence, the fact that they have spent time in jail is enough to derail their goals in life owning to the stigma of being a felon.
Once a felon is given their freedom, they are essentially left to their own devices. Left to fend for themselves, they are forced to take menial jobs that pay far below minimum wage. Other times, they are forced to return to their old criminal ways due to desperation and lack of options in finding some means of earning a living. However, there are programs in place, both government-run and non-government organizations, that aim to lend assistance to them by connecting them with job opportunities that are open to hiring past felons. But these organizations are few and far between and their number alone is not enough to accommodate every felon that exits prison and is looking for job opportunities.
It is for this reason that NCESC was started. It could be said that Michael, the founder of NCESC, had a vision of an online portal for felons to go to when they want to gain a little more insight about job opportunities for felons once they’ve served their sentence. Not only is the blog filled with articles about possible jobs that they could apply for, but the blog also includes posts about how to apply for jobs, what to prepare, which organizations or government offices to approach for help, and many other resources that could serve invaluable for someone looking for a job. The website doesn’t aim to replace established programs that help former convicts find a decent living, but it serves as another option to look for possible job openings as well as a way to inform them about the reality of the current job market.
