The leader in online testing administered more than 130M assessments in 2025, 24% more than the last two years, and will continue providing the K-12 community with intentional, cutting-edge technology to improve student outcomes
Today, Cambium Assessment, Inc., a Cambium Learning® Group brand and the leading provider of innovative digital assessments to more than half of the states in the US, announced its plans for accelerated momentum by launching and developing unparalleled technology solutions for districts and states. By serving the largest student population in the nation's most populous states, Cambium Assessment's scalability and capacity prove unmatched by any other assessment provider. In 2025 alone, Cambium Assessment administered more than 130M online assessments, successfully handled 1.5M simultaneous test takers (about 20 professional football stadiums worth of students) and tested over 16M students. As the leader in data-driven assessment, Cambium Assessment is uniquely positioned to equip students with custom insight into their academic journey and provide meaningful ways for teachers and students to utilize feedback.
Cambium Assessment's dedication to excellence is acknowledged industry-wide. Most recently, it achieved the ISO 9001:2015 certification, an internationally recognized standard for Quality Management Systems (QMS). As the most widely used QMS standard in the world, this certification builds upon Cambium Assessment's ISO 27001 certification and assures customers that they are receiving the best service, while leveraging a quality management system.
The Cambium brand also announced its completion of all requirements for the Ed-Fi Assessment Outcomes API for Data Standard Suite 3 Certification. By adhering to the Ed-Fi Data Standard, Cambium Assessment can reduce data silos among different educational entities, creating a cohesive technology environment and providing educators with a succinct way to help their students succeed.
"At Cambium Assessment, our commitment to innovation, accuracy, and the highest quality standards for educational data excellence underpins Cambium’s guiding purpose of ensuring all students and educators feel seen, valued and supported," said Steve Kromer, president of Cambium Assessment. "Through intentional expansion of our solutions and achieving certifications like the ISO 9001:2015, we have propelled our impact to support more users than ever before."
Cambium Assessment's Continued Impact through Cutting-Edge Innovation
Cambium Assessment not only provides states with industry-leading assessment solutions, but it also leads the assessment space in the creation of innovative new solutions, all designed to leverage data to improve outcomes. Notable advancements and achievements from Cambium Assessment now include:
- Write on with Cambi! – An AI-powered writing assistant that delivers real-time feedback to improve writing. Developed by Cambium Assessment’s machine learning scientists and content experts, this dynamic writing companion guides students through the editing process, helping them get from big-picture ideation to the finer points of the drafting process like sentence structure and grammar. Feedback shared with Write on with Cambi! is aligned with state standards and common writing rubrics. It was launched with a limited release in June 2024.
- K-2 – An innovative solution for identifying learning challenges sooner. Launched in August 2024, this solution designs criterion-referenced, standards-based assessments that directly assess the grade-level academic content standards that show progress towards grade-level expectations. This solution offers a suite of K2 assessments, including screener, formative/diagnostic and comprehensive assessments. In the 2024-2025 school year, 1.2M tests/screeners have been administered to help ensure young students are on track with their education goals.
- Family Portal – An easy way for all parents to access, understand and be involved in their child's learning progress. Through this solution, families can import assessment results automatically into a convenient website to learn about their children's progress and needs at any time. With family portals playing a key role in student development, this tool creates essential connections with families, students and teachers which is highlighted by the more than 24M users in 2024, a 75% increase from 2023.
- Through-Year Assessments – An adaptive progress monitoring solution that helps educators leverage data throughout the year, when action is most impactful. The Through-Year assessment model is part of an assessment system designed to produce a single summative score meeting federal and state accountability requirements. Producing a summative score distinguishes Through-Year assessments from traditional interim or benchmark assessments which are not used in accountability systems. Cambium Assessment administered close to 9M Through-Year tests this past school year.
Continuing Momentum through 2025 and Beyond
In addition to 2024's momentum, Cambium Assessment is furthering its vision of utilizing technology to improve educational outcomes through several new launches in 2025, including:
- ClearFrame – An application programming interface (API) that provides a direct connection to third-party digital curriculum solutions, delivering the actionable assessment data needed for personalizing each student’s optimal learning path. With its pilot launch in 2025, ClearFrame allows school districts to easily create connections between Cambium Assessment’s state-level assessment data and participating education technology solutions. As a result, teachers are then able to deliver optimal learning experiences to students based on their prior performance on the Through-Year Assessments, and leverage assessment data to personalize more effective learning paths.
- ClearCourse – A new professional learning platform that leverages Cambium Assessment's in-house experts to create custom learning opportunities for educators. With Cambium Assessment's in-house experts in item and test authoring, data literacy, and assessment literacy, this platform enables the creation of powerful modules for skill development, professional growth, and effective learning management.
Kromer continued, "I am grateful to our team for their ongoing dedication to developing innovative technologies to provide schools with the data and insights needed to make informed decisions about their students' educational progress and determine the right path forward for each individual learner."
