Magellan Healthcare Announces Expansion of Pharmacy Outreach Program – inforMED

Evidence-based pharmacy solution provides an integrated approach

Magellan Healthcare, Inc., the behavioral health division of Magellan Health, Inc., today announced the expansion of inforMED, a clinical pharmacy outreach program that provides physicians with unbiased, evidence-based information about medications and other therapeutic interventions in support of integrated care.

In 2019, the U.S. spent almost $107 billion treating mental health disorders, with nearly 30% of this expenditure directed towards prescription drugs.1 To help address these costs, Magellan Healthcare’s inforMED program provides specialty-trained pharmacists the ability to work with behavioral health and primary care providers. This will help them all better understand prescribing trends and consult on best practices, resulting in lower costs and improved outcomes. The program focuses on medication and Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) interventions for persons with behavioral health conditions. Further, inforMED is expanding to support the integrated care of pain management, cardiovascular, diabetes, and other chronic conditions for members with behavioral health conditions.

How inforMED Works

  • Evidence-based algorithms—Advanced algorithms process pharmacy, medical, lab and other available information to analyze prescribing patterns and stratify interventions.
  • Personalized clinical outreach—Residency-trained, board-certified specialty pharmacists educate providers and assist them with clinically appropriate prescribing and complex polypharmacy issues, including consultations on tapering regimens for unnecessary medications and managing adherence barriers.
  • Comprehensive outcomes reporting—A dedicated analytics team provides expert insights into activity tracking, prescribing patterns, HEDIS-related outcomes and medical and pharmacy savings.
