Tachyum™ today announced that it has successfully demonstrated the final piece of its core software stack with a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) running on a Prodigy emulation system. This milestone enables the company to provide OEM/ODM and system integrators with complete software and firmware stack and serves as a key component of the upcoming Tachyum Prodigy® 4 socket reference design.
BMCs are specialized controllers that monitor the state of a computer or hardware, including aspects such as system health, log events for failure analysis and a range of remote management capabilities. Tachyum's BMC for Prodigy Servers is based on AST2600 System on Chip (SoC), ASPEED’s 7th generation server management processor and the world’s first BMC SoC to adopt 28nm advanced process technology.
Tachyum joined the OpenBMC, a Linux Foundation collaborative open-source project, in May 2020 as a contributor to the community seeking to define standards for standard BMC firmware stack that will work across heterogeneous systems, including enterprise, HPC, telco and cloud-scale data centers. As part of the OpenBMC Project, Tachyum is able to reuse much of the project’s previously supported features including:
- Host management: Power, Cooling, LEDs, Inventory, Events, Watchdog
- Full IPMI 2.0 (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) Compliance with DCMI (Dublin Core Metadata Initiative)
- Code Update Support for multiple BMC/BIOS images
- Web-based user interface
- REST (Representational State Transfer) interfaces
- D-Bus based interfaces
- SSH (Secure Socket Shell) based Serial over LAN (SoL)
- Remote KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine)
- Hardware Simulation
- Automated Testing
- User management
- Virtual media
- Verified Boot
- OpenCompute Redfish Compliance
“We are excited to reach the end of our core software stack development efforts with the successful addition of BMC to our previously completed UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface), Boot loaders, Linux/FreeBSD, KVM, compilers/debuggers, libraries and native applications,” said Dr. Radoslav Danilak, founder and CEO of Tachyum. “All together, this complete software stack represents the basis of Tachyum supercomputers, AI and cloud solutions. Now, we can focus our attention on integrating Prodigy with high-level management software before its upcoming official debut.”
Tachyum's Prodigy integrates 128 high-performance custom-designed 64-bit compute cores with the functionality of a CPU, a GPU, and a TPU in a single device, allowing it to deliver performance up to 4x that of the highest performing x86 processors (for cloud workloads) and up to 3x that of the highest performing GPU for HPC and 6x for AI applications.
Prodigy delivers unprecedented data center performance, power, and economics, reducing CAPEX and OPEX significantly. Because of its utility for both high-performance and line-of-business applications, Prodigy-powered data center servers can seamlessly and dynamically switch between workloads, eliminating the need for expensive dedicated AI hardware and dramatically increasing server utilization.

About Tachyum
Tachyum is transforming AI, HPC, public and private cloud data center markets with its recently launched flagship product. Prodigy, the world’s first Universal Processor, unifies the functionality of a CPU, a GPU, and a TPU into a single processor that delivers industry-leading performance, cost, and power efficiency for both specialty and general-purpose computing. When Prodigy processors are provisioned in a hyperscale data center, they enable all AI, HPC, and general-purpose applications to run on one hardware infrastructure, saving companies billions of dollars per year. With data centers currently consuming over 4% of the planet’s electricity, predicted to be 10% by 2030, the ultra-low power Prodigy Universal Processor is critical to continue doubling worldwide data center capacity every four years. Tachyum, co-founded by Dr. Radoslav Danilak is building the world’s fastest AI supercomputer (128 AI exaflops) in the EU based on Prodigy processors. Tachyum has offices in the United States and Slovakia. For more information, visit https://www.tachyum.com/.
