Michael Garrett becomes newest retired flag officer to join the First Command Board of Directors

First Command Financial Services, Inc., announced today that retired Army Gen. Michael Garrett has joined the company’s board of directors, effective Nov. 4.

“From its first day in existence in 1958, First Command has led the way in helping our Nation’s military families get their financial lives squared away, and we are honored to have Gen. Garrett join us in this crucial work,” said First Command President/CEO Mark Steffe. “I look forward to working closely with Gen. Garrett and the rest of the board as we continue our Mission of coaching those who serve in their pursuit of financial security.”

Gen. Garrett experienced a long and distinguished military career, culminating with his service as the commanding general of the U.S. Army Forces Command from 2019 to his retirement this year. He is the newest retired flag officer to join the company’s board of directors. Others include:

  • Vice Adm. Jody A. Breckenridge, U.S. Coast Guard
  • Vice Adm. Barry M. Costello, U.S. Navy

“Great people make great organizations, and First Command's talented people and strong culture make a profound impact on those they serve,” Garrett said. “Their values and commitment to military families, which I share, allowed us to form a natural and immediate partnership. I look forward to serving with the First Command team and contributing to their vision of lifelong financial security for our Nation's military families.”
