Exhibit 99.1 Release: Immediate Contact: Ronda Williams 312-706-3232 OIL-DRI BOARD OF DIRECTORS AUTHORIZES ADDITIONAL COMMON STOCK REPURCHASES AND DECLARES DIVIDEND Chicago - December 7, 2004 - Oil-Dri Corporation of America (NYSE: ODC) announced today that its Board of Directors has authorized the repurchase of an additional 500,000 shares of its Common Stock. Including the 50,904 shares left under prior authorizations, the company is now authorized to repurchase up to 550,904 shares of Common Stock. Daniel S. Jaffee, President and Chief Executive Officer said, "Our strong cash position gives us an opportunity to continue to repurchase shares of our Common Stock. We see this as an excellent program to provide value to our stockholders. We will make these purchases periodically, taking into account SEC regulations, market conditions and our future business opportunities." Since the company began its stock repurchase program in June 1991, Oil-Dri has bought back 1,865,867 shares of Oil-Dri stock. At an average cost of $15.27, this represents a $28,491,000 investment in the company. The Board of Directors today also declared quarterly cash dividends of $0.11 per share of Common Stock and $0.0825 per share of Class B Stock. Fiscal 2005 marks the 28th consecutive year the company has paid cash dividends.
