Response to certain press relating to alleged big bath accounting of certain companies:
There was a news article in the Korean press claiming that certain Korean companies, including Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), have engaged in so-called big bath accounting.
Historically, quarterly operating income of KEPCO has fluctuated considerably due to seasonality of electricity tariff rates. Such fluctuation in operating income is largely a result of higher electricity tariff rates during the summer and winter months compared to the spring and fall months. Fluctuations of KEPCOs quarterly operating income is due to such seasonal fluctuation of electricity tariff rates and is consistent with the seasonality pattern of historical quarterly operating income over the past 10 years. Such fluctuation is not a result of any irregular big bath accounting.
