Central backbone station will be located in Luanda to support satellite links for cellular equipment across the country

Petah Tikva, Israel, May 31, 2006 – Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. (Nasdaq: GILT) today announced that it will provide communications equipment and services to Angola Telecom, one of the largest operators in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Gilat will provide an integrated redundant satellite solution to expand the existing fixed and cellular backhaul infrastructure. This will include efficient satellite modems equipped with higher-level modulation and advanced forward error correction that reduce satellite transmission costs.

Nir Korman, Sales Director for Africa of Gilat Network Systems, said “In the last two years, Gilat has invested a special effort to offer efficient backhaul solutions to cellular operators, enabling quick deployment of cellular infrastructure to remote communities. In the Angola Telecom network, our satellite hub station will provide a redundant solution and will facilitate the expansion of an existing cellular backhaul, thus, enhancing the network’s capacity.
