Tucson, Arizona Apr 28, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - With a host of acclaimed players, including seven college All-Americans and last season's USL League Two Golden Boot winner, FC Tucson is just days away from taking the field at Kino North Stadium for its 12th season in the USL leagues.
On May 5th, 2023, in celebration of Cinco De Mayo, the FC Tucson Men will return to USL
League Two with seven players who have local ties, including former Rincon/University High School standout Tommy Silva. The 5-foot-10-inch defender played in nine games for FC Tucson in 2020 and is a two-time Pac-12 All-Conference Second Team selection who played in all 20 games as a junior at UCLA last season.
FC Tucson's 2023 roster also includes Casper Mols, a 6-4 Dane who was named a first-team All-America goalkeeper in his freshman season at the University of Kentucky last year, and a pair of NCAA Division II first-teamers -- Colombian midfielder Duvan Canchila (University of Charleston) and Brazilian forward Kainan Dos Santos (University of West Florida).
Also joining the Men in Black is forward Ethan Stevenson. With the Brazos Valley Cavalry in 2022, Stevenson netted an amazing 19 goals in just 13 games to win the USL League Two Golden Boot. Last year, Stevenson averaged only 57 minutes between goals to finish with one of the highest goal-scoring rates in the 27-year history of League Two.
Along with Silva, other players with local ties on the FC Tucson roster include Jerod Allen (FC Tucson Academy and Sierra Vista Buena High School), Stetson Milligan (Vail Cienega High School and the Barca Residence Academy), Fernando Garate (Salpointe Catholic High School and Pima College), Chuy Virgen (Sunnyside High School and Pima College), Saul Lopez (Vail Cienega and Pima College) and Nathan Hurtado (Barca Residence Academy).
FC Tucson will open the 2023 season with an exhibition on May 5th against Seleccion
Guanajuato at Kino North Stadium on Cinco de Mayo Night concluding with a fireworks
show. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Five days later, on May 10th, the Men in Black will take on FC Arizona of the NPSL in another home exhibition at 7 p.m. FC Tucson opens its League Two season on the road against Redlands FC on May 13th.
