Colonial style Eastern Shore B&B with foodie theme and historic ambiance attracts travelers looking for a new experience.
Snow Hill, Maryland Apr 5, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - The new owners of Chanceford Hall Bed & Breakfast, Matthew and Lady Shae Von Marsh, are celebrating the first anniversary of the re-opening of the Colonial Mansion as a Bed and Breakfast. The couple found the Federal and Georgian style home built in 1759 while looking for a new adventure during COVID and relocated from downtown Orlando, Florida to the storybook small town of Snow Hill, Maryland where the scenic Pocomoke river runs through this classic American town graced with local shops, eateries and art galleries set among colonial-era homes and mature landscape.
Upon moving into the property that sat empty for over 3 years, Shae and Mat immediately set to work to make Chanceford Hall a one-of-a-kind experience for travelers that are looking for something special. A once forgotten and covered brick pool was renovated and brought back to its former glory within the first few months as many other restoration projects addressed cosmetic issues in this 262-year-old home, ranked as one of the top 100 most important buildings in Maryland by the Historic American Buildings Survey and the Society of Architectural Historians.
The home had been run as a Bed & Breakfast for 30 years before falling dormant for several years. The couple wanted to make Chanceford Hall an amazing venue for travelers visiting Ocean City, Assateague, or Chincoteague Islands, or just a unique place for visitors from the nearby metropolitan areas like Washington DC, Philadelphia, and Baltimore to get respite from the busy cities.
Lady Shae Von Marsh has curated an acclaimed breakfast menu that boasts dishes like Hot Honey Chicken and Waffles Eggs Benedict, Chesapeake Shrimp and Grits, her signature Honey Poached Pears in Puff Pastry, and the guest favorite Lady Danes, a Crème Brulée take on a classic French pastry. She serves every meal on gilded fine China with crystal stemware in the home's grand dining hall under the light of the chandelier with guests seated on 17th century Rococo revival chairs that the couple sourced while decorating the property.
The couple purchased Chanceford Hall in January of 2021 and opened the property a few months later in April. In the year since, Matthew and Lady Shae have welcomed over 350 guests and made many new friends. They have participated in the towns' Holiday Historic Home Tour that takes place during a Dicken's themed weekend that the town of Snow Hill hosts annually, kayaked to "Goat Island", a small island in the river just off of nearby Byrd Park that is home to several resident goats; and participated in many of the monthly First Friday town events that bring neighbors and guests together for music, shopping, drinks, and fun.
Lady Shae has researched and enjoys narrating the many stories of owners and residents of the property, including that of Colonel Levin Handy, a Commander in the last naval battle of the revolutionary war. She wants Chanceford Hall to be a special place for people to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life, explore small-town charm, and experience an inspiring Colonial property while savoring a breakfast that they will not soon forget.
