Founder Tarquin brings 15 years of hospitality industry experience to the venture, having worked across hotels, events, pubs, and restaurants before discovering his passion for specialty coffee in 2023. This extensive background informs the shop's approach to both coffee quality and customer service.
The coffee shop partners with Broadway Coffee Roasters in Southsea, known for their ethically sourced beans and sustainable solar-assisted roasting technology. As a specialty roaster, Broadway selects high-grade Arabica coffees that align with the Specialty Coffee Association’s international quality benchmark — requiring beans to score 80 points or higher on a 100-point scale to be classed as specialty.
This commitment ensures that every cup served at Tarquin's offers not only exceptional taste, but also supports sustainable farming and fairer trade within the coffee supply chain. Customers can enjoy classic preparations such as espressos, lattes, flat whites, and cappuccinos, all crafted with care and precision.
Local partnerships form a central part of the Tarquin's experience. BEK the baker supplies freshly baked buns and pastries made with natural ingredients from the region. BAKES by Bear, a small Southampton bakery founded by former teacher Claire, provides homemade brownies and cakes. Farm-pressed juices come from Chegworth Valley, a family-run Kentish farm operating since 1983.

Patrons have responded positively to the new establishment. Adam Hillier describes it as "Easily the best speciality coffee shop in Southampton and well worth the trip down to Netley. Great coffee & food from local places, and a nice relaxed vibe." while Clair Barton notes the "lovely coffee and a nice easy place to be." The business operates with the mission statement "Where outstanding hospitality meets coffee perfection," combining quality beverages, local food products, and a welcoming atmosphere. As an independent café, Tarquin's contributes to the local economy by supporting regional producers and offering an alternative to chain coffee shops.
