“ChatGPT, Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot bring about a revolution in the way we buy things. Consumers are happy about it, but is it great for businesses? We think they are likely to suffer if they don’t respond in time”, says Alex Semyonov, HeyInnovations’ CEO.
In HeyInnovations’ view, the reason for being alarmed is that AI assistants, including Gemini and Microsoft Copilot, instantly recommend products and services to users. This changes the traditional purchasing process.
In the past, consumers followed a multi-step process before making a purchase. They identified their needs, researched options, sought advice, and read reviews before deciding. However, AI assistants streamline this process. With just a few chat messages, users can quickly find the best products for their needs. For instance, a chatbot can suggest the ideal washing machine for a family or a perfect gift for a history enthusiast.
This shift, in HeyInnovations’ view, poses a dilemma for businesses. Their traditional marketing channels may no longer be effective in the future. While search engines and social media previously helped target customers actively seeking solutions, they become useless if a customer is searching for a product via a chatbot. It’s not clear how to make ChatGPT or Gemini recommend products and services. Thus, it seems that businesses must now devise strategies to ensure their products are getting noticed by these chatbots.
