Shapiro Previously Served as Chief Revenue Officer at Morning Brew and Fandom
Straight Arrow News (SAN) announced today the hiring of Ken Shapiro as Chief Revenue Officer. A media industry leader and strategist who previously served as Chief Revenue Officer at both Morning Brew and Fandom, Shapiro will drive revenue, increase audience growth, and build out marketing and business operations for SAN. He will report to Joe Ricketts, SAN’s CEO and Founder.
During his 25-year career, Shapiro has built teams and monetized content across screens. At Morning Brew, he led monetization initiatives, sales marketing, and product strategy. During his six years at Fandom, Shapiro led a global comprehensive sales, marketing, and product strategy that enabled advertisers to reach and engage specific audiences and consumer behaviors. Prior to joining Fandom, Ken served as the Executive Vice President of Clear Channel Outdoor North America. He shaped his career as an 18-year veteran of Turner Broadcasting, where he served as Senior Vice President of Turner Digital. Shapiro and his team drove revenue, strategy, research, pricing, and inventory management across brands, such as the NBA, CNN, Bleacher Report, NCAA, Cartoon Network, and Adult Swim.
“A highly respected industry leader, Ken is committed to moving media forward and consistently maximizing the value of the brands he represents,” said Joe Ricketts, CEO and Founder of Straight Arrow News. “As we continue to deliver unbiased, fact-based journalism that is clearly in demand, we know that Ken can help us grow our audience and strategically drive our business operations.”
“When I talk to colleagues, friends, and media veterans, I consistently find an appetite for the kind of trusted, objective reporting that SAN offers,” said Shapiro. “After working with some of the world’s largest media brands, I’m thrilled to have the unique opportunity to build up an emerging news outlet that delivers a range of stellar content. I look forward to helping SAN supercharge its already impressive growth.”
Shapiro began his career in 1995 as a sales assistant with Turner Broadcasting’s TBS and TNT and elevated through the CNN News Group and Animation divisions before helping launch the Turner Digital group in 2007. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication from the University of Maryland, College Park. Residing in Westfield, N.J. with his wife and three children, Shapiro is the Founder and Executive Director of the Howard Shapiro Memorial Fund, which raises money for pancreatic research.
SAN was recently granted a perfect 100/100 score by NewsGuard, the independent provider of transparent tools to counter misinformation, and awarded the Certified Balanced status by AllSides, a leading media bias rating service, for a second straight year.
