Withanage Foundation Increases Focus On Sri Lanka Healthcare

HAMILTON, BERMUDA / ACCESSWIRE / July 23, 2024 / The Withanage Foundation has unveiled plans for further healthcare initiatives in Sri Lanka. The Foundation is the philanthropic venture of the Withanage family office, which is behind the BMB Group and Scepter Partners. This announcement marks a renewal of the Foundation's existing activities, as it has funded operations at the Dr. Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital in Malabe, Sri Lanka, for many years.

The Foundation is chaired by Rahula Withanage, with day-to-day activities in the hands of Program Coordinator Rayo Withanage. Rahula Withanage is a corporate financier with a background as a Chartered Accountant, and over 35 years of international experience. Rayo Withanage is the founder of the BMB Group and Scepter Capital Partners, and the former owner of Picasso's final home, Château de Vie. He resigned from his finance businesses to focus on the family's philanthropic work.

The initiatives in Sri Lanka are close to the family's heart, renewed in memory of Rahula's brother, Dr. Athula Withanage, who passed away in 2024. Dr. Withanage was a highly esteemed surgeon in Wales, for many years holding the position of Clinical Director and Lead Clinician at Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest. He was given the Medical Unsung Hero's Award, and was nominated twice for the Silver Scalpel Award. "My brother was a real role model for me," said Rahula Withanage. "His commitment, generosity of spirit and dedication to his community is an inspiration, and an example of the impact that one person can have on so many lives."

Based in Switzerland, the Withanage Foundation will be working with partners to develop further initiatives across the world. Rahula Withanage concluded, "We hope that our Foundation can continue to make a tangible difference where it is needed most. It is a privilege to be able to give back to the community in Sri Lanka that raised our family, and we hope to continue to make a real impact, through both business and philanthropy."
