LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / July 13, 2024 / Chef Bernard James, Owner of Taste of the Caribbean LA and Miss Caribbean Los Angeles beauty pageant has announced that the 2nd annual beauty pageant will be expanding to New York for 2025. The pageant will partner with nonprofit organization, Corlette Malcolm James Charities in honor of his late wife Corlette Malcolm James who passed away in 2009 from Lymphoma Cancer.
"We had a great amount of success in Los Angeles with the first pageant and have been getting an outpour of support from businesses and sponsors in New York so it was only right that we expanded," said Chef Bernard James.
In addition to New York, James plans on expanding to Miami and Atlanta in the near future. It is his goal to tap into markets with large Caribbean communities and spread awareness across the nation.
"My children and I suffered a tragic loss and for years we have supported the research of the disease so it was important for me to do something where I could uplift women, shine light on the Caribbean heritage and pay homage to Corlette," said James.
His goal is to provide light to families experiencing darkness after losing loved ones to lymphoma and any form of cancer. Proceeds from the pageant will go towards cancer research.
The 1st Inaugural Miss Caribbean Los Angeles Pageant was held June 1st in downtown Los Angeles. It consisted of food sponsors, vendors and a 3-part pageant that consisted of contestants answering questions and a talent performance. At the end of the night, Jahmea Bent was crowned Miss Caribbean Los Angeles, Bent was representing Belize.
