SBC Communications Inc. (SBC) today announced the closing of its previously disclosed sale of SBCs interest in a directory partnership to R.H. Donnelley Corporation. SBC received cash proceeds of approximately $1.41 billion at the closing. SBC will record in its third-quarter 2004 financial results an expected gain of approximately $1.35 billion ($850 million net of tax) on the sale.
SBC also voluntarily contributed today $700 million in cash to its post-retirement benefit plans. This contribution brings total 2004 voluntary contributions to SBCs pension and post-retirement benefit plans to $2 billion, consistent with its previously disclosed intentions.
