Peace Arch® Entertainment Wraps Principal Photography on Feature Film Punchy Starring James Van Der Beek
Peace Arch Holds Worldwide Distribution Rights to New Film Starring Two-Time MTV Movie Award Winner Entertainment
Toronto December 12, 2006 -- Peace Arch® Entertainment Group Inc. (AMEX:PAE - News) (TSX:PAE.TO - News), an innovative film and television entertainment company, has completed principal photography of Punchy, a thriller starring two-time MTV Movie Award-winning actor James Van Der Beek (Varsity Blues, Dawsons Creek).
Punchy is being directed by Jonathan Dueck from a script by Darryn Lucie, and is produced by Robert Wilson, Patrick Cameron and Harvey Glazer. Peace Archs Lewin Webb and Kate Harrison are the executive producers. Peace Arch holds worldwide distribution rights.
The completion of principal photography continues Peace Arch's business strategy of assembling a diverse annual slate of new film and television programming through in-house production and third-party acquisitions and generating revenues by the worldwide distribution of that content. Among the more than 20 feature film, television and DVD productions that Peace Arch produced or acquired over the past 12 months are the 2007 Sundance Film Festival invitee and San Sebastian Film Festival prize-winning satire Delirious starring Steve Buscemi, Michael Pitt and Alison Lohman; another 2007 Sundance Film Festival invitee Chapter 27 starring Jared Leto and Lindsay Lohan; the recently completed ten-hour event television series The Tudors starring Jonathan Rhys-Myers and Sam Neill; and the romantic comedy Watching The Detectives starring Cillian Murphy and Lucy Liu.
Punchy is a feature film about a screenwriter (James Van Der Beek) who locks himself in his apartment for 32 days in order to complete a script against a drop dead cut-off date. The solitude gradually alters his reality into a living nightmare.
Van Der Beek won his first MTV Movie Award (1999) for Best Breakthrough Male Performance for his work in Varsity Blues, for which he also won a Best Breakout Performance Teen Choice Award, starring opposite Amy Smart, Paul Walker and Jon Voight; and his second MTV Movie Award (2001) for Best Cameo Performance in Scary Movie. Van Der Beek is well known for his work in the successful, long-running television series Dawsons Creek opposite Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson.
