“On January 12, 2009, director Mary Schapiro notified Duke Energy Corporation (the “Company”) that effective January 15, 2009, she would resign from the Company’s Board of Directors. Ms. Schapiro was nominated by President-elect Barack Obama to serve as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission.  The nomination is subject to U.S. Senate confirmation.”
